FLOOD BROOK ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING FOR THE FUTURE (E.L.F.)

112005_74304_0.pct

The ELF (Environmental Learning for the Future) program is stronger than ever this year at the Flood Brook Union School.  The program is a long-standing part of the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) education outreach agenda.  The ELF program at FBUS is for grades K through 3 and is designed to teach an understanding and appreciation of the natural world.  Ann Hausslein, our ELF Trainer, teaches our volunteers a new  topic each month.  Her expertise in natural science and her enthusiasm guarantee a fun, information-filled lesson.

The theme for this year’s ELF program is “Habitats” which is an especially fun topic for our primary grades.  We study a wide variety of habitats including fields, forests and streams and the changing seasons, which brings in a new element when studying animals and their winter homes.  Each month, parent volunteers and children follow the VINS curriculum in addition to exploring the woods and fields surrounding Flood Brook.

We are especially grateful this year to the folks at the Stratton Foundation who generously helped us fund our ELF program through the FBSAC fund-raising structure.

If you would like to join this great group of volunteers, please call the FBUS office for more information.
