Current Situation
- Constant and excessive roof leaks
- Structural fatigue in some roof assemblies
- Rising energy costs
Energy Cost Concerns
- Actual fuel oil costs at FBUS have increased an average of 31% per year over the last three years (Compiled actual FBUS fuel invoices)
- Future projections indicate continued rising costs due to price increases for oil/propane
- Future fossil fuel supply, costs and shortages are unpredictable
Roof/Wall Study: Findings
- Some laminated roof beams and decking do not meet current structural code requirements
- Roof insulation does not meet current code requirements
- Some identified wall systems also require additional insulation
The Solutions: Roof & Wall
- Replace roofing material with new membrane
- Reinforce laminated roof beams by adding reinforced steel as needed
- Strengthen roof decking with structural insulated panels
- Add insulation to walls as needed
- Remove/replace single pane windows in gym
The Solutions: Energy
- Use structural insulated panels to increase R Value of 1965 portions of roof
- Add insulation to certain wall systems where R Values are very low
- Install a wood chip heating system
